Genus of 9 species valued for their colourful, showy sprays of tubular to trumpet-shaped flowers. Quick-growing. Train this vigorous and spreading climber on a pergola where it will provide welcome shade. It can be used to cover a wall or fence and even to hide an ugly building. This vine clings with tendrils to surfaces. Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Not well-suited to very hot, humid conditions or to very cold or dry inland areas. Will withstand light frost. Propagate from semi-hardwood cuttings during the growing season or layer in early Spring. It is one of the plants that has undergone a number of name changes. It was previously known as Bignonia cherere or Phaedranthus buccinatorius. Distictis 'Mrs Rivers' has mauve-pink flowers with yellow at the base.
